Renewing an expired domain is one of the common challenges faced by clients. To clarify this you should note that when you purchase a domain, it's not a one-time thing and requires you renew it yearly to keep it in service.
Here are reasons why your domain should not expire:
  • An expired domain will show advertisement page as the page content. This put off your previous or new visitors.  If you eventually renew such domains names, it will take days for it to propagate.
  • All services associated with the domain name will automatically not be available. This includes DNS, Website and Email accounts.
  • Some domain extensions cannot be renewed once they expire.
  • Some domain extensions have 29 days grace period (renewal period) to renew it at the regular price.
  • Some domain extensions have 30 days grace period after expiration. This is referred to as the redemption period, but it may cost as much as N32,000 or more depending on the domain extension.

If your domain is still not renewed after the redemption period, it then enters into a pending delete period of 5 days. At this stage, you can no longer renew it and you risk losing the domain to another buyer. It will be available for fresh registration again after 70 days of failed renewal.
